Things to Do in Asheville

When people who are considering relocating to the greater Asheville area come in to our office, one of the first questions they generally ask is, “What is there to do here?" From there, it helps to better define the question by asking what it is they enjoy doing: Is it music-related, are they foodies, do they prefer solitary walks in the woods, or is live theatre more to their liking? Yes, in this small community, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we have all this and much more to offer.
Between the Take 5 (the entertainment section of the local Asheville Citizen Times that comes out of Friday) and Mountain Xpress (which hits the streets on Thursday but is always updated online), they cover most of the upcoming week’s events.
Looking for something different? How about a hike along the Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs through the Greater Asheville area, or spend the day at DuPont State Park between Hendersonville and Brevard. There are over 250 waterfalls in Transylvania County (just south of Henderson County), which also offers kayaking and fly-fishing opportunities. Of course, with the French Broad River flowing through Asheville, kayaking & fly-fishing are minutes from wherever you might be.
Looking to become involved in the community? There are options galore for volunteering all over the area, including SCORE, Habitat of Humanity and various animal rescue organizations.
An award-winning Symphony, a minor league baseball team and a reintroduced herd of elk are all within an hour’s drive from downtown Asheville, too.
Yes, up here in the Blue Ridge Mountains city of Asheville NC, there truly is something for everyone.
