South Asheville

The high growth experienced by the south part of Asheville has led to more new homes constructed on smaller lots. The older neighborhoods in the area generally date from the 1950′s through the 1980′s and feature a variety of architectural styles. The exception to this is one of Asheville’s Oldest
Golf Communities, Biltmore Forest, built on land from the original Biltmore Estate and Asheville’s newest Towne Square- Biltmore Park. Also located to the south are the communities of Arden and Fletcher in Buncombe County and the town of Hendersonville in Henderson County.
Biltmore Forest is a planned residential community with a rich cultural history. Much like the grounds of the Biltmore Estate itself, the layout of Biltmore Forest was planned by Frederick Law Olmsted and his associates, the renowned landscape architects who designed New York City’s Central Park and Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Incorporated in 1923, the town of Biltmore Forest was in 1990 deemed eligible as an historic district by the U.S. Department of the Interior and city ordinances guide everything from tree removal to the prohibition of structures in front yards within the town.
North Carolina Arboretum – Every year more than 370,000 people experience the Arboretum’s beautiful gardens , trails, exhibits, shows, expos, educational programs and lectures. Nestled just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Pisgah National Forest, the Arboretum is an affiliate of the University of North Carolina and provides one of the richest natural garden settings in America.
Biltmore Town Center- Humming with life, this vibrant town center in Asheville, NC, is a fresh re-imagining of the Main Streets of the past, made to meet today’s standards of smart growth, green living and reduced driving. Fletcher –Bordering on the northern tip of Henderson County, and the southern edge of Buncombe County, Fletcher was founded in 1856 and is home to the Asheville Regional Airport, The AG center-location of the WNC State Fair and a variety of commercial and industrial centers.
