Relocating to Asheville NC
People relocate to Western North Carolina for many reasons- some come here for vacation and just never leave. Some are lucky enough to get transferred to WNC, and some just decide that it’s time to enjoy our Blue Ridge Mountain views on a daily basis.
Depending on where you are coming from, mountain living may take some time to adjust to. It’s a little slower and we have four real seasons, which can mean snow and ice during the winter months. There’s a sense of southern hospitality, with a twist. It’s southern enough for you to feel welcome right away and the twist is that there are so many people from so many different places you can instantly feel a part of the community, if you choose. You may find your sense of community in attending religious services, or you may hope to connect to those who share your passion in music or volunteering. Perhaps you prefer solitary hikes along the Mountain to Sea Trail. -Whatever you choose, you’ll feel right at home here.
The Asheville Community
While the area in and around Asheville may seem like a tourist magnet, make no mistake: We have a very strong sense of community and independence. The downtown section is thriving, not only during the weekdays but nights and weekends, when there’s a pulsing beat that seems to take hold of old and young alike.
With real estate prices adjusting over the past three years, our average residential property in the 4 major counties of WNC is still around $215K, with the median price hovering around $175K, the Asheville area being just slightly higher. The Asheville Chamber has a great section on their website that offers a breakdown in demographics as does the Hendersonville Chamber, Haywood County and Madison County.
Oh, and we have lot’s of wildlife…and not just the kind you find downtown on Saturday night. It’s not unusual to see bears, even in the close-in neighborhoods. Deer & turkey wander thru backyard gardens, and we’re even reintroducing elk back into Haywood County.
So, when you’re ready to call WNC “home,” we’re here to help guide you through the process and will work hard to make your transition from ”there” to “here” a smooth one!
