Log Home Living

Have you always dreamed of owning a log home? What better place than the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina.
Each area of the country has a log style that is prevalent. Here in WNC the Appalachian log with or without chinking is the top choice and is often combined with antique logs, which produces a uniquely individual style of home. Check out www.loghomes.org- this is the log home council, where you will get the nuts & bolts of log home living. Also visit www.loghome.com.
Log Home Living in the Mountains
There are however, as many log styles to choose from as there are locations to build them in. Waynesville & Maggie Valley, in Haywood County, (west of Asheville) have many log home communities, offering both year round or part-time living. Madison County, just north of Asheville, is home to Mars Hill, where individual cabins are scattered about and it is also home to Wolf Laurel Resort.
Asheville, Weaverville, Black Mountain, Fairview, Lake Lure & Hendersonville are just some of the local towns that have an abundance of log homes. Log home pricing tends to be slightly higher on an individual cost per square foot basis, and when properly constructed and maintained they often offer a high energy rating. But they do require regular maintenance and it helps to work with a team of professionals that specialize in, or are at least familiar with, the characteristics of log homes.
