The Greater Asheville area schools consist of traditional city and county schools as well as an impressive selection of charter and private schools and a sizeable home schooling community. In an area that has long attracted those seeking a higher level of learning, there is an array of universities, private colleges, and community colleges.

Within Asheville there are two school systems: Asheville City Schools, which consists of 2 high schools, 1 middle school, 5 elementary magnet schools and 1 pre-school facility; and Buncombe County Schools, which serves the balance of the region with 43 different locations.

The Henderson County Public School system is comprised of four school districts (East, Hendersonville, North, and West). They have a total of 23 school; 13 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 4 high schools, 1 education center, and 1 early college high school.

Haywood County Schools has a total of 16 schools- from elementary to high school and an early college high school.

Madison County Schools has a total of 7 schools, with an early college school.
